Myerstown

A Little Slice of Home

Let me show you around my home town of Myerstown, PA. Most of these pictures are dated to the mid 90's so a few things have changes since then. I guess this is a snapshot of the town that I knew and grew up in.

Myerstown is in the east side of Lebanon County, which is between the cities of Harrisburg and Reading. Myerstown is about five miles east of the city of Lebanon on Rt. 422. Since it is only an hour drive to Harrisburg, Hershey, Lancaster, or Reading there is always something to do if you have a car and some money.

Eastern Lebanon County High School
(Aka: ELCO, "High-Tech High") This is where I spent four years of my life trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my self. It is located about two miles SSE of town at the corner of Weavertown Rd. & ELCO Dr. When I went to school, we called it "High-Tech High" because they spent a TON of money on computers and other sorts of expensive technology and million dollar football stadium and all-weather track. I can only assume that they spent a lot of that money on those upgrades in response to the talk that the school choice legislation would allow parents to pick which local school system to send their kids to.
The Old Mill
I really do not know much about the old mill. It is located on Quarry St., which is on the SE side of town, near the Mill Ave. intersection. I think it looks cool. Especially the way the creek goes under the building. I use to go for walks and ride bike past it all the time.
Roma Pizza
Ahhhh....Roma! The best pizza in town could be eaten here or taken out. It was located on Main Ave. just east of the redlight at College St.(Rt. 501) However, I don't even know if it is still there anymore. My personal favorite was a large sicilian with everything. One of the coolest things about the place was their phone number: 866-6969 How can you ever forget it? This place would have been perfect if they could deliver.
Mike's Pharmacy and Pinky's Furniture
I use to work at Mike's, so stop by and spend some money. :) *grin* It is located on W. Lincoln Ave. (Rt. 422) about a third of a mile west of the redlight at Locust St. (Rt. 645). Mike's and Pinky's are a couple of the nicer stores in town. Mike's has the best greeting card selection in town too, or at least they use to. This actually use to be a Kurtz Pharmacy. Then Kurtz sold out to CVS then Mike bought the Schafferstown and Myerstown branches and consolidated theminto this one store. I remember walking in that day when I learned that they were sold. "Oh...do I still have a job?" :)
Raub's Twin Kiss
Raub's is one of my favorite places to eat in town. It is located on Lincoln Ave. (Rt. 422) and is just west of the redlight at Locust St. (Rt. 645). It is not a fast-food place or a dinner, but something in between. I think it has the best hamburgers, chef salad, root beer, fish sandwich, and ice cream in town. You have to try the Hot Fudge Cake Delight. Very good. I hope they still have it.
Beautiful Jefferson Avenue
IMHO, Jefferson Ave. is the nicest street in town. It is located one block south of the redlight at Lincoln Ave. (Rt. 422) and College St. (Rt. 501). This picture was taken when I was facing east. In the other direction on Jefferson Ave. lie the Library, Post Office, and Watertank.
The Evangelical School of Theology
Yup, there is a college in Myerstown. It is located on College St. (Rt. 501) at the intersection of Park Ave. I do not know too much about this place either. Then again, I am not going to be a pastor. I had a friend once whose father went there, but he never told me anything about the place. On the other side of the college there use to be the Albright fields where I played baseball as a child. I remember when they decided to bulldoze the fields and put up apartment buildings. :( *sniffle* It was one of those dying childhood moments.
The Old Isaac Meier Home
This is the oldest house in town. It is located on College St (Rt. 501) just a stone throw away from the pond at the corner of College St & Richland Ave. I think it is the house of the founder of Myerstown. I do not know much about this place either. I have never been inside. It was probably one of those things where it is always right there and you just keep puting it off because you figure you can always do it later.

I just want to thank everyone who has mailed me about this page. It is nice to know that people actually enjoy these pages. It makes me feel like it was worth the effort to write them. Thanks!
